Jourdan Simmang - Director & Lead Instructor
Jourdan, born and bred Texan, is a lifelong educator, having been in the classroom since 2009, teaching everything from English and History to Algebra and Theatre. He obtained his Masters in Education in 2014 and has used that degree as a private, alternative high school administrator. His mission is to teach scholars how to think.
He and his wife and daughter, and two dogs, live in New Braunfels. You'll likely find Jourdan next to his smoker making some brisket or reading out on his back patio. He's a published poet, stage actor, and has played the same saxophone since 1995.
Tara Felicella
Tara Felicella brings over 20 years of experience to the classroom, along with a master’s degree in curriculum and instruction and additional training through the Master Science Teacher program at SMU. Her teaching style is energetic, encouraging, and grounded in the belief that every student has the potential to grow. She focuses on building confidence, fueling curiosity, and creating a learning environment where students are challenged, valued, and inspired to grow.
She values building connections—not just with students, but with their families too—because learning is most meaningful when everyone is part of the journey. Known for her sense of humor and big heart, Tara creates a space where students feel supported and motivated to grow and succeed. She’s the kind of teacher who can laugh with you, push you to think deeper, and celebrate every win along the way.
Outside of school, she enjoys time with her family, being near the water, and wrangling her two golden retrievers, Wrigley and Cayleigh—who like to think they run the show. She’s proud to be part of the Spyrja Academy team.

After 36 years as an educator, I now enjoy teaching therapeutic art and therapeutic dance and side-gigging at a Hill Country winery on the weekends.
I love having more time with family and friends, traveling and visiting art museums and exhibits. I am also learning to play the harp.
I have been so blessed to serve in many different capacities in education.
There is magic in serving our youth and being the guide to their growth.
