Spyrja is now offering after school tutoring sessions for both middle schoolers and high schoolers.
Arrive at 7:30 for Homeroom. Each day, we have time set aside to ease into the day by playing games, building community, saying the Pledge of Allegiance, and having a moment of silence. This time is here to provide a space for our kids to build their social and emotional skills.
At 8:00, we'll start our academics for the day. Our learners will have History, Math, Science, or English, Electives, and Second Language. But, it's not all that it seems. Academics shouldn't be siloed, so expect to find where History meets Math, and Science and English collide!
Don't worry. We'll have plenty of brain breaks, time outdoors if the heat and mosquitos allow, and games.
Lunch starts at 12:15. This is a great community time. At this moment, we encourage all families to send lunch with their children.
At 12:45 we will resume our academic instruction as above.
Starting at 3:15 we move from our academics and pursue our Enrichment program. This is the time when we dive deeply into questions that need answering. This is cooperative group time where we work together to solve problems or create new ones.
Arrive at 8:00 for Open School. Open School is a time when parents can come and have coffee with the Director and meet with the teachers. We really want to build relationships with each of you, so please come have coffee and doughnuts! Once a month, we'll have breakfast tacos made with the Director's own brisket.
At 8:45 the campus opens up for homework hall and Maker Space. This time is supervised by the teachers who will help our students either catch up or get ahead.
Once 10:05 hits, we have time set aside for pure remediation. Students who have fallen behind in comprehension during the week will have this time with a teacher to be exposed to the content once more in a different modality to ensure concepts are comprehended.
11:40 is our time to engage in our fine arts on a deeper level. Whether it's slathering on the oil paints, reciting Hamlet's monologue, or dancing our hearts out, we'll get in touch with our inner muses and explore the world of fine arts.
Lunch is at 12:30
Science Lab starts at 1:00. This is different from our Core Class. We take our concepts from the week and apply them to a learning lab that requires us to don our lab coats and eye protection.
We'll finish our day at 1:55 with Community Service. It is important Spyrja Academy and everyone in it contribute back to the community we serve. Whether it's beautification, serving our wounded veterans, or raising money for a cause, you'll find Spyrja Valkyries leading the charge.

We will be studying humanity through books like Frankenstein, Animal Farm, and Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde.

Spyrja Valkyries will be learning algebraic concepts through real-world applications: how to calculate outcomes for small business growth, how to graph population changes over time, how to interpret number systems that don't make any logical sense! We're going to see how math is represented through history and maybe even calculate some fictional numbers in our novel studies.

Science is both inductive and deductive and has connections across a wide array of disciplines. We focus on the physical world first, looking at how all the elements on the Periodic Table make their way into our lives, then graduate through motion on Earth then outside our direct gravitational bubble.

Studies have shown time and again that children who are involved in fine arts are better able to navigate the shifting waters of both adolescence and adulthood. Founder Jourdan Simmang is an avid theatre goer and performer himself, and can attest to the theatre's profound impact.
Each child will be involved in some form of art, whether it's acting, painting, playing an instrument or singing, or solving elegant proofs. Each individual is given the freedom to find out which art drives him or her.
Since Spyrja Academy is a micro-high school, we offer extracurricular activities that are nontraditional. Founder Jourdan Simmang is a fencing coach and will be offering competitive fencing as an option. Spyrja Academy is also partnered with Athlete's Journey and can be a school of record for city leagues.

Spyrja Academy also offers time for band rehearsals, swim teams, track and field, and service groups.
Each Friday, Spyrja Academy is engaged in a community service event. We have time set aside to give back to our community writ large. The projects change throughout the year, so be on the lookout for what's coming up first!

Drama and poetry surface through studies of the evolving human consciousness. We take a look at early prose and poetry from Seneca and Euripides, the traditions of oral histories, and how humanity has relied upon our own stories to try to explain our world. We look closely at civilizations up through the Renaissance. We'll read books like Fahrenheit 451, The Road, and Unwind.

Our Sophomores will learn more about the wonders of shapes, both 2D and 3D (and possibly 4- and 10D!). Did you know that a circle isn't a shape with no sides, but a shape with infinite sides? What is infinity, even? We'll explore these concepts and more in our Sophomore year.
In their Sophomore year, Spyrja Valkyries are going to dive into the wide, wide world of acids and bases, alkenes and alkynes, and everything in between. We'll figure out what exactly happens when the body is recovering from an intense workout, determine if lightsabers could really exist, and try to find the perfect rocket fuel. Chemistry is everywhere, so let's go looking!
Each year, the fine arts requirements get deeper and deeper. High schoolers also have the option to maneuver between studies, both within the year and from year to year.
Our extracurricular offerings will remain constant from year to year, but may change based on the connections we make within the community. Be on the lookout for any positive changes as we grow!
Community service for our Sophomores is more engaging in the community. We will spend time with the disadvantaged and members of our community who will need positive interactions.

There are so many great works of literature here, they can't possibly be listed. But, nonfiction is highlighted, where our scholars will read founding documents, philosophical treatises, though we will also look into some wonderful works like Through the Looking Glass and The Things They Carried.

Like everything up to this point, our scholars will be led through these concepts as they connect to other parts of their lives and other information they've already learned. They'll gain hands-on experience pitching roofs, calculating trajectories of rockets we'll build, and checking to make sure our calculations are correct.
This year, Spyrja scholars will be looking deeply at the biological systems present on the planet and beyond. We'll examine the beauty of interactions between organisms, growth and development, biomechanics, and perhaps the future of humanity. We'll explore what life may be like on other planets, too!

Community service for our Juniors is the year of independence. Our scholars will choose projects they want to work on and be the spark to ignite change in our community.

Spyrja Valkyries will be able to, their Senior years, choose paths of knowledge that will enrich their already deep well of experience. Academically, they will need to develop, under the guidance of their teachers, routes of exploration that tie together everything they've learned so far and create a series of projects that seat their knowledge into the real world.
The Senior year is also a year of celebration. Our Seniors are campus leaders, mentors, and spokespersons for the school. Leadership classes and apprenticeships start this year.
Senior year, Valkyries will develop their artistic portfolio with the guidance of their mentors and teachers. This will assist them in getting into college if they so desire, or it will help them gain employment after high school.
College and post-secondary counseling will be available to all Seniors and all Juniors during their summer months. We recognize that college will not be everyone's path, so we explore all options equally.
Spyrja Seniors have the option to use this time as work-study, or they can organize, plan, and execute community service events and projects for the campus and beyond.
